My name is Brittany Riggsby and I am 26 years old. I am originally from Harnett County and I have experienced a lot of change for the better since being at Albemarle Teen Challenge.  I moved to Raleigh, NC due to my loving and supporting family so I could stand a chance to change my life and live a normal life! At the age of 15 I started smoking weed. At the age of 18, I started experimenting with pain pills and I became addicted to them. I stayed addicted to pain pills for 6 years and I started injecting them. I stopped injecting pills and other substances when I lost my fiance/best friend to suicide. Afterwards, I started doing a large amount of heroin on an everyday basis. I would do it from morning until night and eventually started selling crack cocaine to support living as well as my habit. This lifestyle became normal to me and so did the fast money of selling illegal drugs. It eventually caught up with me and I was arrested. I am now clean from that old lifestyle and of heroin and pills and I’ve found the cure and it’s the Lord! I’m excited to see what my future holds and what God’s plan is for me.

During the 12 months I have been in Albemarle Teen Challenge, I have felt more love, more happiness, and more peace than any drug could ever give me. I once believed an addict was who I was and who I'll always be, but since God opened the doors for me to come to  Albemarle Teen Challenge I have found my true identity in Christ. After the death of my mom, I began coping with drugs and alcohol at the age of 12 years old. My addiction had only spiraled down hill from there and I began to lose all hope. I lost relationships, my self worth, and my happiness, but through it all God always had his hand on my life. It was when I first got arrested for stealing that God spoke to me. I remember calling out to God in that jail cell and hearing his still small voice. God had to fully break me so that He could put me back together again through the power of His love. God has fully restored my relationship with my family and has given me back my hope for the future He has planned for me. He has completely transformed me into a new person and has freed me from the bondages that kept me captive for so long.

Since I have graduated God led me to complete a 6 month internship with Albemarle Teen Challenge and I have been given an amazing opportunity to help other broken women find their healing through Christ. I am truly thankful for Albemarle Teen Challenge for giving me a second chance at life.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord "plans to prosper you not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future."
